Grade 8 and 9s walk into a confusing array of shorthand symbols as they enter high school. In science, a great many of these symbols are fixed, international occurences and the learners have to memorise them.
This slide show is an attempt to make it easier on the kiddo’s with regards to memorising. I hope to help them with understanding the system, so that they don’t have to spend extra time memorising symbold.
Getting students excited about Chemistry with regards to real life is a bit of a headache. Every year, I kick off the Chemistry module with a bit of background on the Periodic Table and the uses of the elements we work with most often. If you use this, be prepared to spend approximately 2 hours on it. But it is well worth it.
This is a quick introduction to chemical bonding through the use of Lewis structures.
Periodicity refers to the general trends and behaviours of the elements of the Periodic Table.
A quick slideshow for the Grade 10’s on the main ideas regarding redox reactions. A more complete slide show is to follow.
